Installation Guide
PURPOSE
--------------
This guide is meant to be a simple, straight forward walkthrough to installing all the required components for getting Ragnarok Online installed, and focuses on support for playing in the MouRO server.
1. Fetch the kRO installer. The recommended method is RagRay (supports Bittorrent). RagRay provides a single installer file which includes all of kRO and kRO Renewal, patched and ready to be installed.[1]
2. If you need a bittorrent client, a very recommended one is uTorrent (ultra lightweight download)
3. Once downloaded, install it to some easy to access directory (I would recommend something like C:/ro) since you will need to do some work on this directory.
4. To update your installation, it is recommended to use the RSU patcher. After installing RagRay, you should have a patcher already called "RagRay.exe", you can use it to update both your Ragnarok and Renewal installs.[2]
1. Fetch adata.rar and place it inside your RO directory. Then extract the file there (use "Extract Here") [3], it is safe to delete the rar once you get the grf unpacked. This file contains all the dyes and client skin translation, without it you run a very high chance of crashing when meeting other players or seeing them in "rainbow" colors.
2. Fetch bdata.grf and place it inside your RO directory. This file contains the item and skill translations (from Poki's translation project), as well as the information to connect to the server. [4]
3. Get a client to play. You can get several from here. The clients also come in compressed form, so use the same method as in step 1 to unpack it (ie: place in RO dir, "extract here"). Remember to always use the most recent client to minimize crash chance. [5]
4. Make a link to the newly extracted file to your desktop, and use this file to play. If you get an error like "binkw32.dll not found", then you didn't make a link, but copied the actual file to your desktop!
5. Server registration is done using the "_M/_F" way (which means, that you use the RO client and register specifying a "registration" login rather than a normal login. E.g.: if you want to make an account with male characters with user name "john" and password "smith", you enter "john_M"/"smith"). The _M/_F is ONLY needed when creating a new account, and note that the password is case sensitive. Once you create a new account, you should log out and relog to make sure you got down your password right. [6]
If you plan to play an alchemist, it will help to get the MouAI, a customized homunculus AI specifically for MouRO. You can read more information about it here.
FOOTNOTES
--------------
[1] Note that the RagRay bittorrent file does not includes the last part of the rar file, which must be dowloaded directly from rapidshare (link to the piece is included in the bittorrent package)
[2] Keep in mind that you should update your RO installation at least once a month so you are always updated with support for new items, maps and mobs. Not doing so in a very long time could make updating difficult, which can force you to get a new installer with a later date and reinstall RO.
[3] Note that Windows can't handle rar files by default, you need an "archiver" to compress/uncompress files. The recommended one is 7-zip, which is completely free.
[4] If you don't want to use this file, you can find the server connection information here
[5] If you have your own client already, make sure it has adata/bdata support, and that it ignores missing (palette) files. It should also show exp bars up to 255 and enable raising stats up to 255 since the max levels and max stats are both above 99.
[6] If you ever forget your password, you can contact me and I can change it for you (I can't retrieve passwords, only change them around). Be wary that you have to convince me first that the account is indeed yours (give character names, estimated levels, equipment, skills, build, etc, etc)
